Before You Begin

You do not have to know everything before reaching out.

Many people wait to start therapy because they feel unsure, nervous, or confused about the process. That is normal. You may wonder what to say, whether insurance is accepted, how booking works, or whether your situation is “serious enough.”

These questions are here to help you feel more informed before taking the next step.

A Gentle Reminder

You do not need the perfect words to begin.

If you are unsure where to start, you can simply say that. Therapy is a place where the process can unfold with support, care, and room to move at a pace that feels manageable.

Getting Started

Where do I start if I have never been to therapy before?

A good place to start is with one simple step: reach out. You do not need to have the right words, a full explanation, or everything figured out. You can share a brief message about what has been going on, what kind of support you are looking for, and what state you are located in.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy may be helpful if you feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, emotionally drained, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. It can also be helpful during life transitions, relationship stress, grief, trauma recovery, burnout, or when you want a supportive space to understand yourself better.

Do I need to be in crisis to start therapy?

No. Therapy is not only for crisis moments. Many people begin therapy because they want support, clarity, healing, healthier boundaries, better coping skills, or a safe space to process what they have been carrying.

Insurance & Payment

Do you take my public insurance?

Insurance coverage can vary based on your plan, state, and the booking platform used. The best next step is to check the Headway booking link or contact the office with your insurance information. If your plan is not accepted, you can ask about other options or referrals.

How do I check if my insurance is accepted?

You can check insurance through the online booking link, or send a brief message with your insurance provider and the state you are located in. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information through the contact form.

Booking

How do I book an appointment?

You can book through the Headway link or complete the appointment request form on the Book page. The form helps gather basic information such as your name, state, service interest, and preferred contact method.

Does submitting a form mean I am officially a client?

No. Submitting a form or sending a message does not create a therapist-client relationship. A therapist-client relationship begins after appropriate paperwork, consent, scheduling, and confirmation have been completed.

Therapy Sessions

What happens during the first therapy session?

The first session usually focuses on getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, reviewing relevant history, discussing goals, and answering questions about the therapy process. You do not have to share everything all at once.

Is therapy confidential?

Therapy is private and confidential, with some legal and safety exceptions. These exceptions usually include concerns about immediate danger to yourself or others, abuse or neglect of vulnerable people, or situations required by law. Your therapist will review confidentiality with you.

Clinical Supervision

Do you offer clinical supervision?

Yes. Clinical supervision and consultation are part of the services offered. Supervision can support developing clinicians with reflection, skill-building, case discussion, ethical decision-making, and professional confidence.

This website is not a crisis service and forms are not monitored for emergencies. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. If you are experiencing emotional crisis or suicidal thoughts, call or text 988 for immediate support.
